Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard AutoFocus Lens - Gray Market

Product Review

So, you just got your Canon SLR, and wish to go beyond the kit lens. There's no greater choice than the Canon 50 mm f/1.8 II. I've owned it for two years. I own higher-end lenses (70-200 f/4 L and 100 mm f/2.8 macro), but end up utilizing this lens a lot more typically than any other. On a 1.6 crop physique (like the Rebel series) the lens is a great portrait length. The lens is sharp adequate that I can not on a Rebel XS (12 mp) I go to pixelation just before seeing effects of loss of sharpness from the lens on test photographs. The biggest upgrade from the kit lens is the huge acquire in speed. This lens is extremely sharp at f/2.0 or 2.2, and with typical indoor light you'll be able to shoot flashless at ISO400 comfortably. This was the lens I trusted for the birth of our 1st son, and I couldn't be much more happy using the images it captured. Even within the low light of the hospital room I was able to catch those very first eyes-open moments with no a flash. This lens is really light (maybe a bit inexpensive feeling), which is good when you're just carrying a camera to family members outings or traveling. Truly, a Rebel series with this lens isn't that a lot bigger than a good quality point-and-shoot, but you've got far more creative flexability and get a lot much better shots. (Read More...)
